bright idea

To be accurate, this particular bright idea is the product of a whole series of bright ideas:
1) don’t follow the pattern
2) use whatever needle is to hand for the ribbing
3) blithely knit on despite obvious lack of snugness

bright idea, originally uploaded by katie:m.

We’ll see how the fourth in this series of misguided cleverness will work [...]

no more mismatches …

… for now, anyway.

waving lace, originally uploaded by katie:m.

One single sock happily coupled with its mate!  Only six more to go …  I’m taking them in chronological order, so this was the earliest single sock in my basket.  (Well, metaphorical basket — the singles actually hang out in my closet, stuffed in ziplocs with their [...]

new yarn!

new yarn!, originally uploaded by katie:m.

Well, not all that new, but pretty new.
It’s all so lovely … now, what to do with it?

something new

topographical socks, originally uploaded by katie:m.

So this is the new pattern I worked up: topographical socks. They knit up pretty quickly and look good with self-striping or hand-painted yarn (if I do say so myself). This pair is off to my sister to enjoy. Not that she needs wool socks in southern [...]

more mismatches; or, I’ve really got to get these single socks under control

These are some relatively antique mismatches that eluded blogging by virtue of having been completed while visiting my sister in California.  Her apartment was very dark.

left to right: Go with the Flow in koigu (p131) and generic toe-up socks in Sock Hop (Lucy in the Sky).
The single socks are starting to weight on my mind.  [...]

beret FAIL

Well, finishing certainly didn’t improve this flaming pile of a handknit.

I don’t want to blame either the pattern or the yarn, I feel it is completely my fault for pairing the two.  At this point, I’m not longer sure of the fate of this tam … I might just frog it and use the yarn [...]

this is why i avoid the trendy business

Um.  Seriously.  It looks like my head exploded and then conjealed into an apricot cabled Bride-Of-Frankenstein tribute.  Like an even more demented Swedish Chef.  Bork-bork-bork.

I had such high hopes.  I thought this hat (scroll down) would be kind of slouchy and kicky — stylish but just barely.  Nothing too glaring to interrupt my usual dishevelled, [...]

spreading the love

A little while ago Emmms kindly awarded me the Spreader of Love blog award.  Which is pretty awesome, considering the loveliness of her own bloggy world.  Thanks Emmms!

So, in turn, I’m spreading the love:
Jodi, of A Caffeinated Yarn (she’s also knitting through grad school)
Jaime, of A Notion to Knit (her pom-pom troubles and nutria love [...]

ikea hack #7249

I don’t own a niddy noddy < covetous sigh > so when I ripped my FAILED cactus blossom sweater, I needed a way to corral the yarn for a good soak.
Enter my ikea coffee table:

As you can tell from the craptacular photo, this was a bit of a late-night effort.  [...]
